Wooo, New Year's Fic Meme!
Jan. 1st, 2011 07:15 pmAlright, so there were all of the general "year in review" memes that went down, but I don't really feel like doing that. This year was a good year, like most of them have been, and not much has really changed. But fics are going to be interesting, since I started writing them in September of 2009.
Fics published this year: I finished two previously started fics, and wrote about six more. That's more than I thought I had, but that's also only a story every two months, which is pitiful. This year, I want to try and do a one-shot per month, or something equally stupid/ambitious.
To be fair, this was my first full year in fanfiction writing. I think I'm doing okay so far.
For a grand total of: Approximately 47,816 words, if TTB Chapter 1 is included, and all of the other scenes/planning isn't.
Overall Thoughts:
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?: Less. Waaay less. But I also only had one story last year, and this year I have...six? Seven? I haven't whittled down too much on the twenty-one item long list of "Shit to Write" (which is in a word document entitled "Two Fic Ideas"), but I also got a few new ones!
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?: Jyou/Koushirou. But that's mostly because I'm mainly a KH writer. I can get into Demyx and Zexion in a way that I've never been able to do with another series before.
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?: Uh. Happiest. All of them really, but probably Only Light You See. I have a soft spot for the moment that they click together in the Lotus Verse, and that was it.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?: I try and switch up minor things when I write, like changing between first and third person and past and present tense. I learned that I have to stick with that tense/PoV if I want myself to write faster. Switching between Mnemonic and Pants 'R' Us was hard as hell.
From my past year of writing, what was....
My best story of this year: I call it Pants 'R' Us, but that's just because it was my brain baby for four months before I finally managed to kick it into shape.
My most popular story of this year: Based on what? ...I'm going to just go out on a limb here and say Silence is Golden, since it has the most reviews and faves on FF.net. It was finished this year, so I think that still counts.
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Mnemonic. It's a great story, in my opinion, and people don't really seem to like it. I'm not sure if that's because of the way it's written or if it's because of something else, but I haven't gotten as much feedback on it as I thought I would.
Most fun story to write: Pants 'R' Us. Hands down. I laughed when I wrote it. It was hard to write, but that doesn't make it less fun!
Story with the single sexiest moment: Er.... I don't really.... I have this giant fear of writing sex, because it just seems so awkward when I'm writing it.... Pants 'R' Us? Or Stairs, probably.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: The parts of TTB that I have planned out are going to border on the "What the hell" part of that, so..... yeah.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: The Lotus 'Verse. Demyx in that whole 'verse is much different than any other kind of Demyx I've written so far, and it's taken a bit to get into his headspace.
Hardest story to write: Pants 'R' Us. It sprawled and was difficult, and for a one-shot, I thought I should've been done much sooner with it than it was.
Biggest Disappointment: Sadly enough, Mnemonic. I really wish that more people liked it as much as I do.
Biggest Surprise: How much people enjoy Stairs. It was just a thirty minute one-off! But It was funy and cute, so.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: Augh, well, all of them are bits and pieces of me, so.... I'd have to say.....Mnemonic. It mirrors my own thought process much more than any other fic I've written so far. And Demyx in that story... His thoughts are mine too.
Fic-writing goals for 2011: All of TTB and DiYH. Also, The Epic Length Fic of How Demyx Won Zexion I haven't been as active in fic writing this year as I should be, but I think my classes were sorta killing that for me. I'm a slow writer as it is. I might even think about opening myself up for request-fics? I'm going to push my own boundaries.
